This is an artist's impression of Tregonwell Mill at the time of Gregor's discovery (Lt. Commander John Whale, 2001). It was used to grind corn, as were several other along Gillan Creek. The mill is "overshot," meaning the water stream turns the waterwheel from the top, rather than from the bottom. The surrounding hills are cleared of trees, in contrast to the wooded appearance today. Courtesy, John Whale.
